What the World Series Fireworks in Kansas City Looked Like on Weather Radar

— -- As the Kansas City Royals celebrate their World Series win on Sunday night, fireworks lit up the sky. They also lit up the Kansas City National Weather Service radar.
It's not unusual for a radar to detect something else in the sky besides the weather, though when it does capture something different it's rather interesting. According the National Weather Service in Kansas City, Missouri, its radar can detect a variety of particulates and objects in the atmosphere. It can pick up and display migrating birds, bats, bugs, smoke, and even traffic.
These fireworks were fairly close to the radar so they were more easily detected, officials said. When the object is over 30 miles away from the radar, it is more difficult because the radar beam increases in height with distance from the radar.
Though there were no storms in the sky, the radar was still quite busy on this special night in Kansas City.
