Ali Fedotowsky's Fashion Tips

March 12, 2010— -- It's that time of year again: The woman America fell in love with on last season's "The Bachelor" will return as the new "Bachelorette."

When Ali Fedotowsky left Jake Pavelka and quit the show to prioritize her career, audiences cried. Now, she's preparing for next season when women across the country will be rooting for her to meet her prince.

ABC News spent time with Fedotowsky during her wardrobe fitting with "The Bachelorette" stylist Cary Fetman, where she opened up on her fashion sense and what's in store for the coming season.

The "fantasy" fitting began with Fetman scouring Barney's, Neiman Marcus and swanky shops on Robertson Boulevard in Los Angeles for sexy ball gowns, glittery cocktail dresses, that oh-so-perfect jean, killer heels, sparkling jewels and swimsuits galore.

"The first night I need you in something hot, sexy and sophisticated," Fetman told Fedotowsky.

Fedotowsky isn't afraid to make fashion statements with super-short dresses, low-cut tops and mile-high heels. For the first night on the show, she wants to wear something in a bright color with a special flare.

But the fashion risk-taker really sees herself in a different light.

"I like things that are just easy, and different," she said, "My ideal date outfit is a ripped pair of jeans, Converse and an off-the-shoulder, loose-fitting sweater."

Fetman, who has been the resident stylist to Bachelors and Bachelorettes for a combined 17 seasons, said Fedotowsky is "hot and sophisticated" but "doesn't know it yet."

"I was listening to the things that she describes herself as. And I'm looking at it as a professional going, 'You're none of those things. You might do it at home, but with me you're going to the hottest look ... on the rack, you're pulling the best dress, you're pulling the sexiest, the shortest, the most outrageous things,'" he said.

The style trend for the new season will be asymmetrical looks, which Fedotowsky loves.

"There's going to be a one-shoulder top," Fetman said. "There's going to be a one-shoulder dress. There's going to be a one-shoulder sweater."

New Bachelorette on Career, Love

For the new season, Fedotowsky said she's going for the "wow" factor, making her eyes pop.

"I'll probably play up eye makeup a little bit more because I realize that it looks great on camera," she said. "I remember seeing like Ella, Vienna, and Tenley, they always did their eyes really big and they looked great."

A new focus on her eyes is not the only change fans will see this season. The spontaneous Bachelorette said that she "might do some things a little different" than in past seasons.

The career-conscious Fedotowsky recently left her job to become the next Bachelorette, a decision that weighed heavily on her.

On the way to the airport to fly to Los Angeles for her fitting, Fedotowsky recalled, "I'm sitting there like, 'Oh, I just quit my job and I'm scared and what am I going to do after this."

One friend said, "If you meet the man you're going to marry, none of that matters." And she replied, "I was like you're so right."

What Fedotowsky Wants in a Man

But what does she want in a man?

"I'm looking for that guy, the character Tom from the movie '500 Days of Summer,'" she said. "I want a guy who's smart, funny and creative."

For Fedotowsky, the hardest part of being on "The Bachelor" was having faith. She said she didn't have confidence that Pavelka would pick her in the end and her nerves are carrying over into next season.

"You'd think that the fact that I'm the Bachelorette, that means I have more control, but I feel like this is more nerve-wracking than the first time around because, I'm like, what if no one likes me, what if no one picks me," she said. "I really had real emotions [on "The Bachelor" last season] and I have faith that I'll meet someone here and I'm just really excited for that end and to start my life after this."

Fedotowsky will go to the show with tokens from home. She said her co-workers gave her new tennis shoes with the words: "I [heart] _____," which she's hoping to fill in at the end of the 10-week show.

"I'm really hopeful, that I'll meet someone at the end of this, and that they'll have strong enough feelings for me that they'll want to ask me to be their wife," she said.

Going into the new season, which will air in the summer of 2010, Fedotowsky said she has learned how important it is to believe in oneself.

"My mom sent me this rock that has 'Believe' carved into it and she said to 'keep this near you and look at it every day and remember to believe in yourself,'" she said. "I have to believe in myself and it'll work out."
