'Dancing With the Stars' recap: On trio night, Jordan Fisher gets 2 perfect scores, Terrell Owens goes home

— -- Week 8 of "Dancing With the Stars" heated up the dance floor Monday night with trio night, with stars performing a traditional pair dance and then a trio dance a special guest.

Past trio dances added a second professional dancer, but on Monday night's show, the couples were joined by season 17 runner-up Corbin Bleu and past winners Kelly Monaco from the first season, Kristi Yamaguchi from season 6, Alfonso Ribeiro from season 19, Laurie Hernandez from season 23 and reigning Mirror Ball champion Rashad Jennings from season 24.

Former NFL star Terrell Owens kicked things off with a lively Charleston that earned him compliments from the judges and a score of 27. But he also closed the show when it was announced he was eliminated.

"I think Terrell is just a hard worker. This is why I love working with athletes, because they don't take anything I say too personal, and I'm pretty tough ... but that's because I see potential in Terrell," his partner, Cheryl Burke, said today on "Good Morning America."

"I knew that he had it in him, and so I just kept fighting until I got it, and I had no idea we were going to make it all the way to week 8, so I'm super proud of him," she said.

Owens said his emotional side shined through more in the ballroom, as opposed to on the football field, where, he said, "I showed it when I was in between the lines."

The night belonged to Broadway star Jordan Fisher. He earned two perfect scores, which put him at the top of the leader board. His quickstep with partner Lindsay Arnold to "Chuck Berry" by Pharrell Williams was a knockout performance that made often surly judge Len Goodman stand up and applaud.

Later, Fisher and Arnold were partnered with "High School Musical" star Bleu and turned in a sensational performance with a salsa to "Que Viva la Vida" by Wisin. Interestingly, both Fisher and Bleu have performed on Broadway in musicals by Lin-Manuel Miranda: Fisher in "Hamilton" and Bleu in "In the Heights."

Among the night's highlights was a performance from insecure Frankie Muniz, who is always filled with nerves for the show but has proved himself a good dancer. His Viennese waltz with partner Witney Carson was good, and his trio dance featuring Ribeiro was great fun and prompted Goodman to say, "A lot of this competition is about confidence ... You're a good dancer, Frankie. Come out and perform," which brought cheers from the audience.

With the semifinals next week, only five couples remain: Fisher and Arnold, Lindsey Stirling and Mark Ballas, Victoria Arlen and Val Chmerkovskiy, Drew Scott and Emma Slater, and Muniz and Carson.
