Enrique Iglesias 'Currently Undergoing Reconstructive Hand Surgery' Following Drone Accident
This comes days after the drone accident that sliced his hand.
-- Singer Enrique Iglesias is undergoing hand surgery following an accident where a drone sliced his fingers during a concert in Tijuana, Mexico.
"Thank you to all for your concern and good wishes," the singer's rep said on Monday in a statement to ABC News. "Enrique is currently undergoing reconstructive hand surgery today. He will resume his tour July 3rd in Mexico City. We appreciate your thoughts and prayers.”
Iglesias, 40, was performing in front of 12,000 fans when he grabbed a drone. Video from a fan in the crowd captured the frightening moment when his hand got caught in the drone’s sharp rotating blade.
“During the show a drone is used to get crowd shots and some nights Enrique grabs the drone to give the audience a Point of View shot,” a representative for the singer said in a statement. “Something went wrong and he had an accident.”
The Spanish singer-songwriter, 40, was “semi-treated” on the side of the stage Saturday to stop the bleeding, according to the statement.
"Do I have blood everywhere?” he could be seen asking in video captured backstage. “I feel numb,” he said.
Iglesias was advised to end the show but went on to perform for an additional 30 minutes.
After the show, he was met at the airport by an ambulance, and he was later flown to Los Angeles to see a specialist, according to the statement.
