'The Fast and The Furious': 15 Things That Have Happened Since the Film's Release in 2001
Wanna feel old? This Paul Walker hit was released 15 years ago.
-- "The Fast and The Furious" came out 15 years ago this month. Feel old yet?
Yes, the franchise that made Paul Walker and Vin Diesel stars began a decade and a half ago. It may seem like yesterday, but a lot has happened since the first film hit theaters and started one of the most profitable movie franchises in history.
Here are 15 things that have happened since the movie came out 15 years ago:
1 - The iPhone
It feels like the iPhone has been around forever. It hasn't. In 2007, we saw the first iteration from Apple and it didn't even run on 4G or LTE. In fact, the rear camera was 2 MP, which took really amazing pictures, right? In comparison, most phones now take 16 MP pics and run super fast compared to the original revolutionary device.
2 - President Obama
Obama has been around for eight years and will finish his run as commander-in-chief later this year. But it was George W. Bush who had just started his term in 2001 when "The Fast & Furious" came out.
3 - Facebook
Yep, Facebook started in 2004. By that time, the sequel had already been released! Most social media has come out since the first "Furious," including Friendster in 2002.
4 - 'Friends' Finale
The show came to a close in 2004, 12 years ago. Doesn't it feel like that happened before "Furious"?
5 - The Majority of Superhero Films
With the exception of "X-Men" in 2000, most of the superhero movies dominating box offices today came out after "Furious." In fact, "Spider-Man" with Tobey Maguire came out in 2002!
6 - 2 Royal Babies
Kate Middleton got married and has given birth to two beautiful kids, all after "Furious."
7 - Jacob Tremblay's Entire Life
The 9-year-old Oscar nominee may seem seasoned, but he was born long after Walker's Brian O'Conner gave Dominic a 10-second car, spoiler alert!
8 - 'Keeping Up With the Kardashians'
It feels like we've been keeping up with America's closest thing to a royal family since the 1970s, but really, the reality juggernaut has only been on since 2007.
9 - Justin Timberlake's Solo Career
JT left NSYNC and released "Justified" in 2002. The man got a Vanguard Award at a recent MTV Music Awards Show. Guys, this is a lifetime achievement honor!
10 - Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey
The duo were married in 2002, had a hit show, then divorced a few years later. They are both happily remarried with kids.
11 - Jay Z and Beyonce's Marriage
The power couple were married in 2008! Blue Ivy is only 4 years old.
12 - Shondaland
Long before "Scandal," Shonda Rhimes hit it big with "Grey's Anatomy" way back in 2005. Now, the TV queen has her own night!
13 - The End of the Curse of the Bambino
This happened when the Red Sox won the World Series in 2004. That curse had gone on for 86 years before the Sox took the title back to Beantown.
14 - LeBron James' Career
He was drafted back in 2003 at the ripe age of 19. He's 31 now.
15 - Donald Trump Was Just a Businessman
In 2001, Trump was just a successful businessman. He wasn't even married to Melania yet. His hit show "The Apprentice" wouldn't come out for another three years. Now he's the presumptive Republican nominee for president of the United States. Boy, how times have changed.
