'Gilmore Girls' Fans Celebrate Show's 16th Anniversary With Free Coffee at Luke's Diner Pop-Ups

-- It was a "Gilmore Girls" takeover today!
In honor of the show’s 16th anniversary, Netflix transformed 200 coffee shops around the country into Luke’s Diner -- which as all fans know is where Lorelai and Rory get their daily java fix.
Fans lined up in droves to score free coffee with a side of "Gilmore" nostalgia. The pop-ups featured Luke’s infamous “No Cell Phones” sign, baristas wearing Luke’s Diner aprons, and even a life-size cutout of the gruff diner owner played by Scott Patterson.
At Ground Central Coffee Co. on 52nd Street in New York City, fans began gathering before the shop even opened. Owner Etienne Wiik told ABC News that when he arrived at 5:30 a.m., the line was two blocks long. “I’ve never seen something like that,” he said.
But for die-hard fans, it was a necessary pilgrimage. One fan told ABC News that when she found out about the pop-up, her first thought was, “I have to go, even if I have to skip class.”
If you were lucky enough to get the free cup of joe, the cups were emblazoned with quotes from the show and included a sleeve with Luke’s logo on it.
The beloved series -- about a fast-talking mother-daughter duo -- will be returning to Netflix for a four-part revival series called "Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life" on Nov. 25. It stars Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel.
If the long coffee lines were any indication, the Gilmore love is still going strong.
