Golden State Warriors Steph Curry on Chasing the NBA Regular Season Wins Record
The point guard scored 26 points in the 2016 NBA All-Star Game.
-- Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry says he believes he is the best player out there when he is on the basketball court.
“I think that, yes,” Curry told Jesse Palmer of “Good Morning America” when asked whether he thinks he’s the best player in the NBA. “That’s my mentality and focus and motivation when I go out there.”
Curry, 27, closed out the 2016 NBA All-Star Game in Toronto Sunday night by sinking a half-court shot, ending the game with 26 points.
With Curry at the helm, his team, the Warriors, are also on track to break the NBA record for most regular season wins, a title held by the Chicago Bulls.
“I don’t know how many times you’re going to be in the position to chase a historical record like that and be a team that everyone remembers,” Curry said. “We’ll go after it, but getting the [NBA] championship would be much more important.”
While Curry makes headlines on the basketball court, his 3-year-old daughter, Riley, became an overnight sensation when she started attending her dad’s post-game news conferences.
“She’s got so much personality and just so much fun about her,” Curry said, describing his daughter as “full of energy.”
Curry says he is not yet ready for the day when a suitor for Riley comes knocking on the door, telling Palmer he’ll “do all the background checks and the stern presence.”
Curry also revealed what life is like off the basketball court, at home with the Currys. Though his wife, Ayesha, runs a popular food blog, Curry revealed there is one dish in which he specializes.
“It’s an Italian sausage and egg noodle pasta,” Curry said. “Five ingredients. 15 minutes. I keep it simple. Knock it out and let the family enjoy and then you’ll have that tomorrow and the next day, the next day, the next day.”
When Curry and his wife traveled to the White House last week, they recorded a viral Dubsmash with first lady Michelle Obama.
Curry has also played golf with Obama, admitting the U.S. Secret Service threw off his game.
“The only thing that was a little intimidating was the Secret Service,” Curry said. “We lost a match. I did blame it on the Secret Service and he’s used to that kind of environment and I’m not.
“We need a rematch and we can call it square.”
