Harrison Ford Won't Die in New 'Indiana Jones,' Says Steven Spielberg
"This one is straight down the pike for the fans," Steven Spielberg said.
-- In a sweeping "Hollywood Reporter" interview about his legendary career and new production shingle Amblin Partners, Steven Spielberg let slip he's "super excited" about the fifth Indiana Jones film, slated for a July 2019 release.
"I think this one is straight down the pike for the fans," said Spielberg, who ribbed another Disney production, "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," by noting, "The one thing I will tell you is I'm not killing off Harrison [Ford] at the end of it."
Much of the interview is "inside baseball" about the machinations of Hollywood deal making between studios, though one detail remains clear: in an era of Tinseltown belt tightening when it comes to sweetheart deals, the Oscar winning "E.T." director is still king: The trade notes he made more money as the executive producer of "Jurassic World" than did Universal, the studio that released the billion dollar blockbuster.
Another pricey detail? Spielberg has, for years, has raked in 2 percent of the ticket take from Universal Studios theme parks -- and even gets a (financial!) bite of some of the concessions receipts, according to the trade.
Spielberg's next film, the fantasy picture "BFG," opens July 1.
