Jon Stewart Hits Good Guy John Cena with Chair at WWE's SummerSlam
The former "Daily Show" host found himself in the role of the villain.
-- Jon Stewart, a bad guy?
That was the role he played Sunday night when he hosted the WWE event SummerSlam at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
The former "Daily Show" host interfered in a match between WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins, a villain, and United States Champion John Cena. He entered the ring and eyed both wrestlers while holding a steel chair. He then jabbed Cena in the gut with the chair and placed it on the mat.
Rollins took advantage, performing his finishing maneuver on Cena onto the chair, earning the win and Cena's championship.
It was an unexpected turn of events in the context of WWE's recent story lines, since Stewart had a rivalry on YouTube and on "The Daily Show" with Rollins earlier this year. He even kicked Rollins in the groin during a March 2 appearance on "Monday Night Raw."
Stewart is expected to appear on "Raw" Monday night on the USA Network.
Stewart wasn't the only celebrity who was involved in SummerSlam. Arrow actor Stephen Amell took part in a tag-team match and showed off his athleticism by jumping off the top rope and onto his opponents outside of the ring. He and his partner, the high-flying Neville, picked up the win over Stardust and King Barrett moments later.
