Kate Hudson: What Does She Want?

Nov. 4, 2009— -- Does actress Kate Hudson know what she wants?

She bounces from boyfriend to boyfriend, chooses roles with varied box office success and, now that she's dating Yankees' slugger Alex Rodriguez, is looking more like Madonna than Goldie's golden girl.

Hudson vamps it up for the December issue of British Elle, out on newsstands today. In a photo spread, she appears Madonna-buff in a black swimsuit, black satin gloves and cat-inspired eyeliner.

Hudson's new muscled look comes after she dropped 20 pounds for an upcoming role as a terminally ill woman. She lost the weight by eliminating alcohol from her diet.

"I love my glass of wine. I love tequila. To be in New York for two weeks and not have one beverage, I'm not sure I've ever done that!" Hudson told Elle in an exclusive interview for the December issue.

Hudson also loves her men. Since her split with ex-husband Chris Robinson, the Black Crowes frontman, with whom she has a 5-year-old son Ryder, Hudson has had several high-profile boyfriends, including her latest, Madonna's ex Rodriguez.

Hudson's rep did not respond to a request for comment for this story.

"She's living the life she probably missed out on," Us Weekly entertainment director Dina Sansing told ABCNews.com. "I think what happened is she got out of this marriage, realized she's still young and decided to have fun. She has dated around in a way that she probably didn't get to do before because she married so young."

Though it appears Hudson is still trying to figure out what kind of man she wants, she says she's got men, in general, figured out.

"I love boys...but I believe they're really simple," Hudson said in the interview. "Every guy likes to say that they're complicated, but they're so easy to figure out. What did that Dr. Laura say? Something like, 'All men want is sex and for you to make them a sandwich.' I thought that was really funny -- and not entirely untrue.

"I sometimes feel like when you're talking to boys, they just hear certain keywords," Hudson continued. "But if you had a bubble above their head, they'd be thinking about game scores, masturbation and food."

These days, Hudson is only concerned about what one man thinks, and according to Us, Rodriguez thinks a lot about sex.

"They love having sex," a source told the magazine in its latest issue. "People will call her and she'll say, 'We're having nap time,' which is what they call their sex time."

"They seem to really be enjoying each other," Sansing said. "The relationship is lasting longer than anyone would have thought, and some people are even crediting her with his recent success in the post-season. She seems like she's having the time of her life."

Contrary to reports, Hudson told Elle she is not engaged to Rodriguez. But the actress has become a fixture at Yankees games, cheering the slugger all the way to the World Series. In August, she brought her mom, Goldie Hawn, and Hawn's longtime partner Kurt Russell, whom she calls "Pa," to see the Yankees play the Boston Red Sox.

Hawn was reportedly cool on the relationship when it started in May. A source told Britain's Daily Mail that Hawn wanted her daughter to settle down and leave the dating scene.

"Kate's had a string of boyfriends since her divorce from Chris Robinson and it's always the same pattern -- she falls hard and fast, then gets bored or has her heart broken," the source said. "Goldie hates the idea of seeing Kate getting hurt again."

Sansing believes if Hawn was initially cool, she has since come around. "Goldie is extremely supportive of her daughter," she said. "They are very similar people, with similar personalities, looks and careers. She could pull a Goldie and end up with A-Rod for 20-something years and never marry."

Like her mother, Hudson fell initially for a rocker. She was just 21 and a breakout star for her role in "Almost Famous," when she married Robinson, 13 years her senior.

"She married a guy that nobody thought she would marry," Sansing said. "He didn't look the part of the husband of a Hollywood star."

The pair met at a party in New York City in May 2000, and moved in together four days later. But the relationship was often rocky. "In the beginning we were so volatile," Hudson told People magazine in 2003. "We were so in love and passionate, and then we would just hate each other and throw stuff around, and then we would travel to Paris for a week."

After her breakup with Robinson, Hudson rebounded with her "Me, You and Dupree" co-star Owen Wilson.

"Owen was seemingly the perfect match," Sansing said. "They were both blond beauties, loved to be at the beach, free spirits. But what seemed to be perfect on the outside turned out not to be."

Hudson has reportedly dated other actors, including Dax Shepard and Matt LeBlanc and was even linked with her "How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days" co-star Matthew McConaughey.

But it was McConaughey's running buddy, cycling champ Lance Armstrong, that Hudson really clicked with.

"She and Armstrong also seemed unlikely," Sansing said. "He was totally outside of Hollywood. But they were both coming out of relationships (he with Sheryl Crow), they both have kids, they're both athletic. You saw them playing tennis together and getting their families together."

Sansing is not surprised to see Hudson linked with athletes, including NHL star Eric Lindros and golfer Adam Scott. "She's someone who likes the outdoors, she likes to do things," she said. "You always see her running, biking, skiing with her family every year. She's drawn to these athletes because it's part of what she loves."

While Hudson's love life has taken center stage, her career has seemed to suffer, with her most recent films, "Fools Gold," a reprise romantic comedy with McConaughey, and "Bride Wars," with Anne Hathaway, tanking at the box office.

"Everyone really wanted her to be the next America's sweetheart. We needed a new Julia Roberts and Meg Ryan," Sansing said. "'How to Lose a Guy' was a sleeper success. Then she had a bunch of movies that petered out."

"But Hollywood can be very forgiving," she added, "and she's one movie away from being a star again."

The musical "Nine," which she was promoting for the Elle cover story has the potential to be that movie. In the meantime, Sansing said the story and photographs give Hudson a chance to show off her hot figure and remind audiences that she is more than just a single mom.

"They say, 'Hey, remember, I'm a sexy actress as well,'" she said.
