Sam Smith Reveals He Will Sing Title Track to James Bond Film 'Spectre'

— -- After months of denials, and a recent, tantalizing hint to the contrary, Sam Smith has revealed he has, indeed, recorded the theme song to "Spectre," the upcoming, 24th James Bond adventure.

Calling it "one of the highlights of my career," Smith revealed the track will be called "Writing's on the Wall," and that you can pre-order it now on iTunes, though the song won’t be released until Sept. 25.

"Spectre," which again stars Daniel Craig as 007, hits U.S. theaters Nov. 6.

"I am so excited to be a part of this iconic British legacy and join an incredible line up of some of my biggest musical inspirations," he tweeted after the revelation.

Smith is the first British male solo artist to record a James Bond theme song since Tom Jones recorded the theme to "Thunderball" in 1965.

"I hope you all enjoy the song as much as I enjoyed making it," Smith added.

The singer Monday posted a photo of himself wearing a ring with an octopus-shaped logo on it, the same ring worn by members of SPECTRE, the cabal of international baddies Bond has been fighting all the way back to 1962's “Dr. No.”

Sam has been trying to throw off suspicion for ages, suggesting that Ellie Goulding has recorded the theme, not him. There have also been reports that rock band Radiohead got the job.

Now that it's official, Smith is certainly in good company: he joins such luminaries as Adele, Madonna, Alicia Keys, Sheryl Crow, Tina Turner, Paul McCartney, Duran Duran, Carly Simon, Shirley Bassey and others as Bond theme performers.
