The actress, who has been out of the spotlight, reveals struggle on "Dr. Phil."
-- Shelley Duvall, best known for her roles in "The Shining" and "Popeye," is grappling with mental illness.
The actress, 67, who has been out of the spotlight for more than a decade, revealed her struggle during an upcoming appearance on "Dr. Phil."
In a clip of the episode that airs Friday, Duvall, who played Olive Oyl opposite Robin Williams in "Popeye," the film version of the comic strip, claims her late co-star is not dead but is "shape-shifting."
"Do you see him?" host Phil McGraw asks her in the clip.
"Have, yes," the actress replies.
The former star also said she's being "threatened" by the Sheriff of Nottingham, a fictional character from the Robin Hood tales, and that she believes there's a disc implanted in her body. In the clip, she lifts up her pant leg to show McGraw.
"I’m very sick. I need help," she tells him.
