-- With "Star Wars: Episode VII" just months away, the studio is already planning its sequel.
Turns out, that's coming in 2017.
Bob Iger, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of The Walt Disney Company, announced today that "Star Wars: Episode VIII" will hit theaters on May 26, 2017 -- 40 years and one day after the release of "Star Wars: A New Hope."
The film will be directed by "Breaking Bad" veteran Rian Anderson.
Iger also announced the first stand-alone "Star Wars" movie, which will be called "Rogue One." Directed by Gareth Edwards and starring Felicity Jones, the film promises to be one that "explores the characters and events beyond the core 'Star Wars' saga," according to the franchise's website. More details have yet to be revealed.
