What Will Jon & Kate's Big Announcement Be?

June 19, 2009— -- After weeks of tabloid headlines, dueling magazine interviews and rampant speculation about the future of their marriage, Jon and Kate Gosselin may finally answer what everyone has been dying to know: what's next for the parents of eight.

Monday's episode of "Jon & Kate Plus 8" is being promoted as a special one-hour show in which "Jon and Kate have an announcement."

In a 30-second video posted on the TLC Web site, the couple appear miles apart from each other as Kate says in a voice-over, "Recently we've made some life changing decisions… decisions that will affect every member of her family… ones that we hope will bring each of us some peace."

The following words appear on the screen: "A family in turmoil," "A relationship at the crossroads," and "Where do they go from here?"

The Gosselins have been dogged by a whirlwind of negative publicity recently, including allegations of infidelity and claims that they are using the popular reality show to exploit their children.

The headlines initially helped boost ratings for the show. Nearly 10 million viewers tuned in to the season five premiere almost three weeks ago to watch the obviously tense and noticeably distant parents try to get things back to normal after discussing their marital problems.

But viewership has declined for their two most recent shows, neither of which addressed their marital problems, with only 2.9 million viewers tuning in for the last episode.

Monday's episode is expected to be another big ratings grabber.

Kate Gosselin has vowed, despite the couple's marital woes, that the show will go on.

"I must go on and provide for my kids," she told People magazine.

John Gosselin Hasn't Ruled Out Quitting Show

But Jon Gosselin had a different take on reality stardom in his own interview with People magazine.

"Jon does [not] view the show as a job, necessarily, but he does recognize that the show has provided incredible opportunities for him and his family, so he'll continue to do the show as long as it benefits his children," People magazine senior staff writer Michelle Tan told "Good Morning America."

"But every year, when there's a renewal contract that comes along, he does say that they have family discussions about it," she said. "They bring their children into the room. The children account for 80 percent of the family. And if anybody doesn't like the cameras around, then they'll stop production."

Claiming to be hounded by fans asking for autographs, Jon said he hasn't ruled out quitting.

"It's not my job," he said. "My job is to take care of my kids."
