How to help Hurricane Ida victims with donations, volunteering

Charities are mobilizing funds to help hard-hit communities.

Hurricane Ida slammed Louisiana Sunday, leaving hundreds of homes destroyed, neighborhoods flooded and thousands of residents in need of help.

To assist those in need during these challenging times, we've compiled a list to help those affected by the storm.

The list includes trusted groups that are helping to fund relief efforts for the victims of Hurricane Ida.

American Red Cross

On its website, the Red Cross said financial donations will help it prepare for, respond to and help people recover from this disaster.

The organization also urges people in unaffected areas of the country to make an appointment and give blood to ensure sufficient blood supply remains available for patients. To schedule a blood or platelet donation appointment, use the Red Cross Blood Donor app, visit RedcrossBlood.org or call 1-800-RED-CROSS.

Save the Children

Save the Children said on its website that its emergency response team is mobilizing to meet the most urgent needs of children living in areas that will be hardest hit by Hurricane Ida. The organization said on its website that it has pre-positioned essential items like hygiene kits, diapers, wipes and portable cribs, to help impacted families care for their children, and it is also collaborating with local education partners in Louisiana and Mississippi to help restore childcare and early learning centers impacted by the storm.

Feeding America

As communities in Louisiana reel from Hurricane Ida, Feeding America said on its website that its network is providing food and supplies to its impacted neighbors.

To help victims of Hurricane Irma, you can donate here or start a Team Feed fundraiser or a Facebook fundraiser.

Before donating food, water or supplies, Feeding America says to ensure items you are donating are specifically requested.
