Former first lady Michelle Obama's key makeup artist is sharing how to keep lipstick from transferring to your face mask.

As many of us continue to wear protective coverings as advised by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to help further stop the spread of COVID-19, makeup hasn't been the easiest thing to keep on your face.

With that, Carl Ray's tips are perfect for beauty enthusiasts who want to stay protected but still swipe on their favorite lip shade of red.

"If you're not really into the matte liquid lipstick trend and still like your satin finish lipsticks, try applying it in layers," he said in a caption along with a grid of six steps outlining how to keep your lipstick off your mask.

Start:"Exfoliate and moisturize those lips," recommended Ray. "Our lips don't naturally stay soft and smooth, especially during the winter when we suffer from seasonal dryness."

Next:

- Apply a lip primer or concealer.

- Apply lip liner all over lips.

- Apply lip color.

- Blot lips and repeat.

Final:

- Place a one-ply tissue on top of lip color and dust a loose translucent powder over tissue.

- Lip color won't transfer to your mask.

- Remove lip color with a moisturizing makeup remover.
