Couple that lost home to wildfires finds wife's wedding ring in rubble

Don Myers proposed to his wife Julie again after finding her wedding ring.

— -- The Thomas fire has burned 90,000 acres and at least 150 structures in Ventura County, but a husband and wife who lost their home to the fast-moving flames found a glimmer of hope among the ashes.

Don and Julie Myers returned to a pile of rubble where their home once stood to pick up what little remaining possessions were left on Wednesday, according to local ABC affiliate KEYT.

As they sifted through the ashes, Don Myers found his wife's original wedding ring, got down on one knee and proposed all over again.

Not all was lost after all, and the two are in good spirits, KEYT reported.

Red flag warnings have been extended across much of Southern California through Saturday and high winds warnings are in effect for mountains and valleys in Los Angeles and Ventura counties.

The Thomas fire in Ventura County is the largest of the wildfires and was just 5 percent contained as of late Wednesday.
