Thinspired: A Day in the Life of Mara Schiavocampo

A look into the day-to-day of ABC News correspondent Mara Schiavocampo.

Alarm Clock

Most days, the alarm goes off around 5 a.m. I am not a morning person. Waking up is painful.

Times Square Studio

Going to work in Times Square never gets old.

Morning Stir

Morning Snack

I eat a light snack before heading to the gym, like some peanut butter and a banana.

Sweat

I work out almost every day after the show. This is by far my favorite part of the day. I used to hate working out. I dreaded it. But once I found activities I liked, I came to look forward to it. Now I love it.

On Bike

Strength Training

I’ve also started strength training, which is fun in a different way. It makes me feel strong and empowered.

I am terrible at Yoga. Awful! But I do it because I know it’s good for me and it feels good.

Breakfast

I eat my first real meal after working out. I love oatmeal sweetened with agave and banana, egg white cooked with peppers, chicken sausage and sweet potato. This is my breakfast almost every day. It’s a big meal, but after a tough workout, I need it. The egg cup and sweet potato here are from a meal delivery service called Eat Clean Bro. They help me stay on track with meals when my schedule gets hectic.

On Set

Then it’s back to work! I generally wrap up my day around 7 p.m. after “World News Tonight.”

Food

I love to cook. Yes, I made all of that! I don’t cook every night though; generally about twice a week, and I make enough for several days. The single biggest factor in my weight loss was changing my diet. I don’t eat any of my “poisons” ever, mainly flour, dairy or candy. I love fish, lamb, green beans, couscous, sweet potato, broccoli and fruit. Those are my faves.

Picnic Dinner

We always try to have dinner as a family. This is us eating on the floor because my daughter, who is 3, wanted a picnic. It makes her so happy.

Dinner

This is a pretty typical dinner for me: baked tilapia; asparagus; brown rice; mashed chickpeas.

Packing Lunch

I take my breakfast and lunch to work every single day. Managing my food is the most important part of staying on track.

Gym bag

Failing to plan means planning to fail! I always pack my gym bag at night so I know I'll have everything I need in the morning

Bedtime

It can be so hard to get to bed on time, but sleep is a huge priority for me. It’s the key to sustained weight loss. Without it, I’m hungry, irritable and I have no energy. I generally get about seven hours a night, but on weekends I nap during the day, and I’m not ashamed to admit it!
