Rules for the Nightline People's Platelist Contest
We're looking for the best local chefs in the country-- tell us your favorite!
June 9, 2010* -- *On June 16, 2010, the rules below were revised to extend the entry deadline, finalist notification dates, video delivery deadline and voting dates.
Do you have a local chef who you'd like to nominate to be on a Nightline Platelist?
"Nightline" wants you to tell us about that favorite chef, his/her cuisine and signature dish. We're looking for authentic and creative chefs! We will select ten finalists from your nominations and put it to the audience for a popular vote. If your submission gets the most votes from viewers across America, the chef that you entered may be featured on national television!

OFFICIAL RULES:
NAME OF SPONSOR(S): ABC News, Nightline, American Broadcasting Companies, Inc. (Hereinafter collectively referred to as "Sponsor").
ELIGIBILITY:
To participate in the nominating process you must be 18 years or older at the time of entry, and a legal resident of the 50 states or the District of Columbia.
Any individuals (including but not limited to employees, consultants, independent contractors, and interns) who have, within the past six months, performed services for ABC News, Nightline, American Broadcasting Companies, Inc., any organizations responsible for sponsoring, fulfilling, administering, advertising or promoting the Nightline People's Platelist or supplying the prize, and their respective parent, subsidiary, affiliated and successor companies, and immediate family and household members of such individuals, are not eligible to enter or play. "Immediate family members" shall mean parents, step-parents, children, step-children, siblings, step-siblings, or spouses. "Household members" shall mean people who share the same residence at least three months a year.
HOW AND WHEN TO ENTER:
NO PURCHASE NECESSARY.
Submit your nominations online at abcnews.go.com/nightline. Fill out the electronic entry form supplying name of the chef, name of restaurant and the city and state where the restaurant is located, along with your own name, e-mail address, day and evening telephone numbers.
Nominating ballots should also include a description of 500 words or less describing why you think your candidate deserves to be the subject of a Nightline Platelist.
Description should include some or all of the following: geographic region; interesting back story on your chef; authenticity or originality of cuisine; what sets your chef apart from the others.
Nominators may enter more than one chef, but each nomination must be submitted seperately. Chefs must work at a restaurant.
Entries remain the property of Sponsor and will not be returned or acknowledged.
The nominations can be found and will be accepted online at the Nightline page on abcnews.com/nightline starting June 9, 2010. All entries on-line and by mail must be received by midnight PST on July 23, 2010. Any number of people can nominate a given chef, but each person must submit their own entry.
In the event that a chef selected as a finalist has been nominated by more than one person, the entry with the nomination that Nightline determines most effectively conveys the qualities of the chef that lead to him or her being selected, as detailed in selection criteria below, will be considered the official nominator entrant and eligible for the finalist entrant prize.
If you cannot enter online you may submit a written entry by sending it to: ABC News, Nightline "People's Platelist Contest", 147 Columbus Avenue, 7th Floor, NY, NY 10023. The mail-in entry must include the following information: the name of the chef; name of restaurant; and the city and state where the restaurant is located; your own name, e-mail address, day and evening telephone numbers; and a description of 500 words or less describing why you think your candidate deserves to be the subject of a Nightline Platelist. The description should include some or all of the following: geographic region; interesting backstory on your chef; authenticity or originality of cuisine; what sets your chef apart from the others.
Sponsor is not responsible for mail that is lost, stolen, late, illegible, incomplete, damaged, mutilated, misdirected, altered, tampered with, or postage-due.
Mass entries or entries generated by a script, macro or use of automated methods will be disqualified. If for any reason the Nightline People's Platelist Contest is not capable of running as planned, including infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, or other causes that corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of the Nightline People's Platelist Contest, Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to disqualify any individual who tampers with the entry process, and to cancel, modify or suspend the Nightline People's Platelist Contest. If canceled, Sponsor reserves the right at its discretion to determine the winner using all non-suspect eligible entries received up to the time of cancellation. Sponsor is not responsible for failed, partial, delayed or garbled computer transmissions, or for technical failures of any kind in connection with entries or the entry process, including but not limited to electronic malfunction or damage of any network, hardware or software. In the event of a dispute over an electronic entry, prize will be awarded to the authorized subscriber of the e-mail account, not the name on the entry form.
HOW AND WHEN WINNERS WILL BE SELECTED AND NOTIFIED:
10 Finalists will be chosen and contacted by Nightline producers by July 26, 2010. In selecting the Finalist entrants and chefs consideration will be given to factors that include: geographic diversity; interesting backstory; authenticity and/or originality of cuisine; interesting traits or technique; uniqueness and clarity of submissions; and willingness of chef/restaurant to be featured on Nightline.
Each Finalist will be asked to do a brief video "selling" their chef. Be creative! Video submissions must not include third-party materials (music, video, photos) that Finalist did not create and/or have the rights to use. Videos should be submitted within one month of us contacting you -- or finalists will be disqualified.
Videos may appear as part of a broadcast on Nightline announcing the Finalists. Videos and essays nominating the Finalists will be posted online and the general audience will be invited to vote for the winner.
Viewers will be invited to log onto the Nightline page at ABCNews.com (http://abcnews.go.com/nightline) to vote for their favorite finalist between the dates of August 26 and September 26. Voting is limited to one vote per individual IP address. The finalist receiving the most votes online will be declared the winner of the contest.
In the event winner is deemed ineligible, fails to comply with contest procedures, or is not available to claim prize during specified dates, then the prize will be awarded to runner-up Finalist/chef with the next highest number of votes.
The winning Finalist entrant and chef will both be contacted by telephone and certified mail by the producers of Nightline, the winner will be announced live on the broadcast during the week of September 27, 2010.
Odds of winning will depend on number of valid entries received. Final determination of winners is always conditional on verification of eligibility and compliance with all rules and procedures.
PRIZE(S): The winning chef will be the topic of a full Platelist segment, taped and produced by Nightline that will run on the national broadcast on ABC. There will be no monetary compensation provided for either the Finalist entrant or the chef featured.
All expenses not specifically provided for herein are the winner's sole responsibility. Some restrictions may apply.
Federal, state and local taxes, if any, are the sole responsibility of the winner.
Winners are not entitled to exchange or transfer prizes or to obtain cash or other substitutes, but Sponsor in its sole discretion may substitute prizes of equal or greater value.
Prize is subject to availability. Nightline and ABC News are not responsible for cancellation or preemption of the Platelist segment, or for other circumstances that make it impractical or impossible to film or air it. This element of the prize has no approximate retail value, and if it becomes impractical or impossible to fulfill this element, Sponsor's only obligation will be to provide the remainder, if any, of the prize.
Runners-Up: The ten finalist entrants will each receive a People's Platelist T-shirt.
RELEASES: By participating, entrants and chefs agree to be bound by these official rules and the decisions of the Sponsor/Judges and the Nightline People's Platelist Contest administrator, which shall be final in all respects.
By participating in the Nightline People's Platelist Contest and/or accepting any prize that they may win, entrants and chefs agree to release ABC NEWS their parent, subsidiary, affiliated and successor companies, advertising and promotion agencies and prize suppliers, and each of their respective officers, directors, agents, representatives and employees, as well as each of their respective successors, representatives and assigns (collectively, the "Released Parties") from any and all actions, claims, injury, loss or damage arising in any manner, directly or indirectly, from participation in the Nightline People's Platelist Contest and/or acceptance or use of the prize.
Entrants and participating chefs authorize the Released Parties to use their name, voice, likeness, biographical data, city and state of residence and entry materials in programming or promotional material, in any media now known or hereafter created or conceived, worldwide in perpetuity, or on a winner's list, if applicable, without further compensation unless prohibited by law. Sponsor is not obligated to use any of the above mentioned information or materials, but may do so and may edit such information or materials, at Sponsor's sole discretion, without further obligation or compensation.
By submitting entry materials, entrants certify that such materials are original and created by entrant, that entrants have the necessary rights, permission and authority to submit such materials, and, if applicable, that entrants maintain a valid copyright in the materials. Entrants acknowledge that such materials may be included and/or discussed in a broadcast. Entrants release the Released Parties from any actions, claims, injury, loss or damage allegedly caused, directly or indirectly, by any such statements or opinions made during a broadcast.
Before the winner is announced the winning entrant and chef must: (a) provide proof of winner's age, residency, and legal status; and (b) sign and return eligibility, publicity, liability, rules compliance and any other releases requested by Sponsor.
MISCELLANEOUS; WINNERS' LIST: Void where prohibited. All federal, state and local laws and regulations apply.
Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to disqualify any individual who tampers with the entry process and to cancel, terminate, modify and/or suspend the contest in the event of tampering or other circumstances, including but not limited to acts of God or civil disturbance that render it impractical or impossible to complete or fulfill the contest as originally planned.
List of Finalist nominations and winning Platelist entrant and chef will be posted on the Nightline page at ABCNews.com (http://abcnews.go.com/nightline).
