Tom Brady Walks Back Support of 'Friend' Donald Trump
Patriots QB isn't ready to stand behind GOP candidate Trump.
-- Patriots star quarterback Tom Brady isn’t ready to stand behind his friend, GOP Presidential candidate Donald Trump.
In an interview Monday with Boston sports radio station WEEI, Brady said his comments about Trump were blown out of proportion.
"It’s just a different world than when I started in professional football," Brady said. "Even an off-handed comment like that, like you said, that people may run with. And I understand why people do run with it because you get the clicks and that type of stuff. It’s just people doing their job. A comment like that, I try to have fun with certain things.”
The friendship between the Superbowl champ and the real estate billionaire goes back for years, and many rounds of golf.
Trump has been vocal supporting Brady over the last year, during the NFL star’s Deflategate scandal. Once the NFL lifted its suspension of Brady, Trump took to Twitter, saying: "Congratulations to Tom Brady on yet another great victory- Tom is my friend and a total winner!”
Speculation about Brady supporting Trump’s run came after a photographer took a photo of one of Trump’s campaign hats in the superstar’s locker.
Brady admitted he has “known him [Trump] for a long time”, but he is not prepared to say who he will vote for.
"One way or another, it’s so far away from when the election will be. Whatever I vote is going to be my own personal choice based on how I feel," he said. "I don’t even know what the issues are. I haven’t paid attention to politics in a long time. It’s actually not something that I really even enjoy. It’s way off my radar."
