Google Goes Wild With Latest Street View Additions

Zoos around the world were given the Google Maps treatment.

Aug. 22, 2013— -- Did you ever wonder what zoos in other countries are like? Are they just as obsessed with pregnant pandas as American zoos are?

Google Streetview is here to put your mind at rest about such matters. After mapping out Dubai's Burj Khalifa skyscraper and Doctor Who's Tardes, the Google service added several zoos to its photographic atlas.

Although some zoos and aquariums had already been given the Street View treatment, Google Maps' recent update added more than 15 additional locations for animal lovers to explore. The company captured photos of zoos in Australia, Germany, Japan and China, among several places.

Those who desperately need a panda fix can also visit the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. Other endangered species, such as red pandas and golden monkeys, also call the Chinese animal preserve home.

Granted, Google's photos can only satisfy your tiny fuzzy animal needs so far. Several zoos and animal facilities offer live footage of their animals, including tiny marmoset monkeys on the National Primate Research Center's Callicam, red-tailed hawks on the Cornell Lab Bird Cams and polar bears on the San Diego Zoo's Polar Cam.
