Sept. 21, 2010 -- According to a new ABC News/Yahoo! News poll, the American people would rather have President Barack Obama steering the present economy than his predecessor, President George W. Bush.
While many Americans remain pessimistic and frustrated about the economy, some 52 percent of Americans said they'd rather have President Obama at the helm of the economy, while 35 percent said they'd prefer to have former President Bush in charge.
Despite that preference, it's not a strong vote of confidence for Obama's performance. Just 41 percent of Americans in the last ABC News/Washington Post poll said they approved of how he's handling the economy, and an equal number of Americans said that Obama's policies have worsened the economy as said they've improved it.
Yesterday, Obama faced some of those discontented Americans at a town hall meeting in Washington, D.C.'s Newseum.
One Obama supporter, Velma Hart, told the president that she was "exhausted of defending" him and "deeply disappointed with where we are right now."
"My goal here is not to try to convince you that everything's where it needs to be. It's not," Obama told Hart. "But what I am saying is, is that we're moving in the right direction."
We want to hear from you on the results of this ABC News/Yahoo! News poll.
