Taylor Swift helps fan surprise his fiance with a special engagement performance
The singer showed up at their party with a guitar.
It’s a love story, and when a fan asked Taylor Swift to come to his engagement party -- baby, she said yes.
Alex Goldschmidt shocked his fiance Ross Girard, their families and all the guests at their engagement party when he introduced “his friend Taylor” to come out and play song for them.
The couple has been together for three years, after Girard sent Goldschmidt a Tinder message on Valentine’s Day. The two had talked about marriage and even bought a house together. However it wasn’t until one special moment when Goldschmidt realized he was ready to propose.
“I was driving in the car to work listening to the ‘Reputation’ album when the song ‘King of My Heart’ came on,” Goldschmidt recalled. “When I listened to the lyrics I realized that the king of my heart was Ross, and that I wanted to spend every single anniversary I can have with this person.”
Goldschmidt quickly began planning the perfect proposal, but he wanted to make sure he thanked the one person who led him to finally lock down the love of his life.
“I wanted to send an e-mail to Taylor to thank her for the role she unknowingly played in my life,” Goldschmidt said. In the e-mail he told her about the proposal and his moment with “King of My Heart.”
“I wasn’t really expecting anything in return,” Goldschmidt says. “Maybe a quick ‘thank you’ e-mail but that was really it.”
Goldschmidt was shocked when Swift’s publicist responded saying she would be in L.A. the day of his engagement party, and would love to come celebrate with the happy couple.
“I pulled over my car and screamed and cried for a minute,” Goldschmidt said.
Goldschmidt proposed to Girard while they were on a hike that morning, and Girard gave a resounding yes to spending their lives together. The couple then headed to the Sycamore Tavern on Sunset Boulevard where Goldschmidt surprised Girard with their families and tons of their friends.
Only Goldschmidt knew that he had one more trick up his sleeve.
“There is one secret that I didn’t trust any of you with. There was a person who’s not here that sort of played a part in all this,” Goldschmidt addressed the room. “So, I would like you to give a warm welcome to my friend Taylor.”
The room gasped as Swift entered toting a guitar with her. The singer hugged the happy couple then performed a special acoustic version of “King of my Heart.”
“She’s never played that song acoustic before, so it was extra special,” Goldschmidt said. “Knowing she rehearsed and prepared this version of her song just for us.”
Goldschmidt said the look of shock on Girard and all his friends' faces made the agony of keeping such a huge secret all worth it.
“It was a room full of people who were unable to even deal,” Goldschmidt said. “No one knew what their emotions were or how to be able to handle the situation. There was a lot of crying.”
As for the wedding, Goldschmidt says he will certainly extend an invitation to Swift.
“She’s the nicest, warmest, most kind-hearted human being,” Goldschmidt said. “Once you meet her, it’s impossible not to feel as though she’s such a wonderful person.”
Congratulations to the happy couple!
