Justin Bieber issues statement acknowledging he has 'benefited off of black culture'
He said his music, fashion and style have all been influenced by black culture.
Justin Bieber is vowing to do his part to stop racial injustice.
In a note shared with his 138 million Instagram followers on Saturday, Bieber opened up about how black culture has played a role in shaping his career.
"I am inspired by black culture," he wrote. "I have benefited off of black culture. My style, how I sing, dance, perform, and my fashion have all been influenced and inspired by black culture."
The "Yummy" singer added, "I am committed to using my platform from this day forward to learn, to speak up about racial injustice and systemic oppression, and to identify ways to be a part of much needed change."
This isn't the first time Bieber has been vocal in his support of the Black Lives Matter movement.
He recently shared an update about George Floyd's case and information on how to continue seeking justice for Breonna Taylor.
He even encouraged his American fans to get out and vote even though he's Canadian and can't participate.
This is a big difference from the videos that surfaced of a then 15-year-old Bieber using the N-word as he turned his hit "One Less Lonely Girl" into a parody about joining the KKK and killing black people. The 26-year-old pop star issued an apology for his actions in December 2019.
Sharing a post that said "Stand Against Racism," he wrote, "When I was young I was uneducated and found myself saying really hurtful things not knowing the power of my words. Racism Is still very prevalent and I want to use my voice to remind we are all human being and all of EQUAL VALUE BEFORE GOD!"
