Laura Dern talks new season of 'Big Little Lies': 'We're just so happy to work with other women'

The new season premieres on June 9.

"Big Little Lies" star Laura Dern loves her family on the show just as much as the fans do.

The two-time Academy Award nominee, 52, spoke about the cast's reaction to a second season Tuesday on "Good Morning America."

"We were so excited and we really have bonded so deeply in our friendship. But also, as I know Nicole and Reese can speak to, we're just so happy to work with other women," she said.

"When you're on movies for a long time, both cast and crew, there weren't other women around, so to have this amazing group of female actors and crew to work with has been amazing," she added.

Dern also discussed the major, buzzworthy addition to season 2: actress Meryl Streep, whom she worked with on the upcoming Greta Gerwig-directed film, "Little Women."

"She's very talented. But she's also the funniest person you'll ever meet and so brilliant," Dern said. "What a gift for all of us to get to work alongside her. Amazing."

Streep seems to have blended into the "BLL" cast quite well, as she's already part of the leading ladies' famous group chat, which includes Dern as well as Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, Shailene Woodley and Zoe Kravitz.

When asked if the text chain has changed since Streep joined, Dern said with a laugh, "Meryl took it to a whole other level."

She also shared the cast is "all learning from this story." They've even become better secret keepers because of the show.

"We're all learning to be very good supportive secret keepers of each other...with these actors, because we're telling a story about the lies and secrets, we're particular protective," she said.

Another guest star on "GMA" surprised Dern with a question of her own during the interview.

"Jurassic World" star Bryce Dallas Howard, who is currently promoting "Rocketman," asked Dern, who starred in "Jurassic Park," if she would ever consider returning to the franchise.

"I'll ask you two questions," Dern answered. "One would be -- do you know something I may not, and, two, if I were to, would you join me?"

We'll have to wait and see if Dern ever makes her comeback as Dr. Ellie Sattler, but until then get ready for the "Big Little Lies" premiere on June 9.
