October 11 -- Advice guru Dr. Laura Schlessinger raised a white flag to those protesting her show by apologizing for her controversial comments in a full-page ad in today's Daily Variety.

Schlessinger made enemies when she called gays and lesbians a "biological error" and "deviants." She also called gay sex "a violation of Scripture."

But Schlessinger now wants forgiveness from the gay and lesbian community, and she took out a large ad on the back page of the Hollywood industry mag to prove it. Today, the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation denounced Dr. Laura's public apology.

Schlessinger's ad read, in part, "While I express my opinions from the perspective of an Orthodox Jew and a staunch defender of the traditional family, in talking about gays and lesbians, some of my words were poorly chosen.

"Many people perceive them as hate speech. This fact has been personally and professionally devastating to me as well as to many others," the statement continued.

GLAAD retaliated with a statement of its own: "Laura Schlessinger once again blames others for the impact of her rhetoric, refusing to take responsibility for her precisely chosen, scientifically inaccurate descriptions of gay and lesbian lives."

According to Daily Variety, this most recent firestorm comes a week after Schlessinger's sinking TV talk show was canceled in Canada due to poor ratings. On Oct. 3, GLAAD also accused the host of "planting" personal staff researchers as members of her audience.
