'Maze Runner' 'Further Delayed' Due to Dylan O'Brien's Recovery, Says Studio

— -- The final installment of "The Maze Runner" series has been postponed again.

Production on "Maze Runner: The Death Cure" was halted late last month after the film's star, actor Dylan O'Brien, was injured on set.

In a statement on Saturday, a rep for 20th Century Fox said principal photography on the film would be further delayed "to allow Dylan O'Brien more time to fully recover from his injuries."

"We wish Dylan a speedy recovery and look forward to restarting production as soon as possible," the statement concluded.

O'Brien, 24, had been filming "The Death Cure" in Canada, when on March 18 he suffered multiple injuries after an accident on set, forcing him to be hospitalized, his rep confirmed to ABC News.

"The Maze Runner" director said last month that he felt responsible for O'Brien's fate.

In a handwritten note, which he tweeted, Wes Ball wrote: "I've been overwhelmed with feelings of anger and sadness and guilt. But, ultimately I find myself left with a deep love and respect for Dylan. He is one tough cookie."

Ball, 35, also apologized for the "grief this accident has caused his friends and family as well as my wonderful cast and crew."

"The Maze Runner: The Death Cure" was originally slated to hit theaters on February 17, 2017. There's no word on whether the film's production delays will impact the release.
