'The Walking Dead' star Danai Gurira pens heartfelt message to fans, castmates
The actress called it "one of the greatest privileges of my life."
Danai Gurira’s time on "The Walking Dead" may have come to an end, but the actress wants everybody to know she is beyond thankful for the ride of a lifetime.
Gurira took to social media on Wednesday -- just days after her final appearance in season 10's "What We Become" -- to share a heartfelt farewell message, writing, "Is it possible to feel your heart is broken and overwhelmed with love all at once? Leaving Michonne was one of the hardest things I have ever done."
The "Black Panther" star gushed that she is "so grateful" for how her character’s journey has been received by fans throughout the years and called the opportunity to play Michonne "one of the greatest privileges of my life." In addition, Gurira thanked her cast and crew -- all of whom she called "incredible human beings."
"The balm in it all is this amazing family I have gained," Gurira continued. "Everyone, from Andy Lincoln to every last faithful fan, everyone is #TWDFamily, and I am so thankful for that family. And I know it never stops. We will continue to grow and be together in various ways along the journey. We have touched each other. And so, it never ends."
To end the post, she expressed how much all of the attention has meant to her, saying it has "enriched me so much during this difficult time in the world."
Gurira first joined the AMC series in the season 3 premiere, an episode titled "Seed." Her seven-season run stretched from 2012 to 2020.
