February 13, 2009 -- Question: We can't afford the dates and outings we used to enjoy. How do we romance each other on the cheap?

Answer: You know, if you're in your 40s or 50s this one is actually going to be kinda easy cause all you need to do is go back and think about the things you used to do when you fell in love. So those are big things like walking along the river, going, walking on Berkeley Street, people watching, doing a crossword puzzle together, you know, being incredibly romantic to cook a stir-fry and listen to jazz.

All of those things represent things you both liked in common and what happens over time with just life being the way it is, is you get more caught up in very soulless, draining kinds of things where you're mostly going to carpools and doing your taxes and sitting doing things that are not connected like reading your email or surfing the internet. So if you just go back to those things you used to do when you were poor students or you fell in love, you'll have a good bunch of things to do.

Now if you're a young person in your 20s and 30s and you grew up in this time of irrational exuberance and you're used to spending a lot of money, you might have to interview some old people like me and get some tips for frugal dating.
