WWE Hall of Famer Jerry Lawler recovering from stroke
WWE Hall of Famer Jerry "The King" Lawler had a stroke and is now recovering at a Fort Myers, Florida, hospital, according to a statement posted on his Twitter account on Wednesday.
Lawler, 73, also had a stroke in 2018. In 2012, he collapsed while broadcasting on WWE's "Monday Night Raw" after a heart attack.
The King is best known for his commentary work on Raw broadcasts alongside Jim Ross in the 1990s and 2000s. Lawler is also a wrestling legend who starred in Memphis during the 1970s and '80s. He grew to fame when he feuded with comedian Andy Kaufman.
"His speech is limited, but with rehabilitation will regain a full recovery," said the statement on his Twitter account, which was accompanied by photos of Lawler in the hospital with legendary manager Jimmy Hart. "He thanks everyone for the continued prayers and will be back in the near future."
Lawler started with the then-WWF in 1992 as a commentator before he made his in-ring debut the following year with an entertaining program with Bret Hart. Lawler last appeared on WWE programming last month as part of a preshow panel ahead of the Royal Rumble.
Even in his 70s, Lawler has continued to occasionally wrestle on the independent scene. He most recently had a match with Scott Steiner in March 2022.
