— -- A family of ducks gave motorists in Minnesota a scare when they decided to play a real-life game of Frogger, and it was all captured on video.

A mother duck and her ducklings successfully made it across Interstate-35 in the northwestern part of the Twin Cities on Wednesday, causing cars to swerve left and right to avoid hitting them.

The mother got her ducklings in a row and took off across the four lanes of traffic, maneuvering through rush-hour traffic.

Camera operators at the Minnesota Department of Transportation noticed a deviation in the traffic pattern and zoomed in to find the group waddling and weaving through oncoming cars.

“Some cars came pretty close to hitting the ducks but also came close to hitting other cars,” Minnesota Department of Transportation communications director Kevin Gutknecht told ABC News today.

MDOT uploaded the video to its Facebook page on July 23, writing, “These may seem like cute, fuzzy and lucky ducklings to you, but they have violated several state laws and statues, not to mention pedestrian safety best practices.”

Gutknecht said while he’s happy the ducks made it across safely, it was extremely dangerous for the drivers.

“Our state patrol would tell those drivers not to do that in the future,” he said. “It wasn’t smart for [the drivers] to swerve like they did.”
