'Bachelor in Paradise' Recap: Samantha Gives Joe the Heave-Ho
Find out whom she chose instead and get the latest on Joshua and Tenley.
-- Joe Bailey's time in paradise came to a sudden end Sunday night.
He was eliminated during the latest episode of "Bachelor in Paradise," all thanks to Samantha Steffen, the woman who motivated him to join the show in the first place.
In a dramatic rose ceremony, Samantha held the final rose and was forced to choose between Joe and Dan Cox. To the surprise of the other cast members, she picked Dan.
Afterward, Joe confronted Samantha, who complained about the drama that had surrounded their relationship. He responded by threatening to reveal text messages, allegedly from Samantha, that would prove that she'd schemed with him prior to the season. Allegedly, she'd urged him to do whatever it took to get a rose so that he would be waiting for her when she arrived in Mexico.
Samantha's decision left a bitter taste in the mouths of her co-stars, who now view her as a villain who turned her back on Joe.
Earlier in the episode, it appeared as though Samantha had given Joe a second chance, after canceling a date with Justin Reich. Before the rose ceremony, Dan tried to convince Samantha that Joe was no good for her. Apparently, the talk worked.
After Justin was cut loose by Samantha, he went with his backup plan: Amber James, who accepted his invitation for a date. They learned salsa dancing, but Amber was hung up on Dan. Unfortunately for her, he didn't feel a strong connection with her, and told her as much.
Recurring "Bachelor" franchise star Chris Bukowski arrived to paradise and was awarded a date card, though he initially seemed more preoccupied with the alcohol that was available. Eventually, he asked out Tenley Molzahn, but she rejected him.
Seeing an opportunity, Joshua Albers asked Chris whether he could have the date card. Chris agreed, and his ego took a blow when Joshua promptly used the card to woo Tenley. Joshua and Tenley traveled to Guadalajara, Mexico, where they enjoyed dinner prepared by renowned chef Francisco Ruano.
In the lead-up to the rose ceremony, Ashley Iaconetti handed her crush, Jared Haibon, a lengthy letter detailing her feelings for him. On the rebound from Dan, Amber took an interest in Jared, too. Ashley presented Jared with a rose at the rose ceremony.
Toward the end of the episode, another "Bachelor" franchise alum joined the cast: Chelsie Webster from Juan Pablo Galavis' season of "The Bachelor."
"Bachelor in Paradise" continues Monday night at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
