Bon Jovi, LL Cool J among Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nominees
Eurythmics, The Moody Blues, The Cars, and Nina Simone also made the list.
— -- The nominees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 2018 class have been revealed, and the list spans multiple genres of music including rock, rap, metal, jazz, R&B, punk, progressive rock, and funk.
Among the big names are Bon Jovi, LL Cool J, Dire Straits, Eurythmics, The Cars, and the Moody Blues.
"It's a remarkably diverse group of artists, and it's reflective of the diversity of rock n' roll," Rock and Roll Hall of Fame President and CEO Greg Harris told ABC News. "We have a number of different eras, we have a number of different styles of music, and just a great balance. And any five out of this [list] would make for a wonderful induction class."
This is Bon Jovi's second time on the ballot -- the band has been eligible since 2008 and was first nominated in 2011. Harris said they're definitely a group fans are rooting for.
"It's exciting to have these bands that you know bring anthem-like music to the masses and have impacted so many people," Harris added.
Fans can vote for their favorites at RockHall.com. The top five artists chosen by the public will make up a "fans' ballot" that will be included with the other ballots. The final inductees will be announced in December, determined by a voting body of more than 900 artists, music historians, and music industry insiders.
"The fan vote is really interesting," Harris explained. "It opens up today and runs until December 5. Last year, of the top five fan vote-getters, four of them were inducted. So this year, there are some artists that are clearly fan favorites, and I think their followers are going to turn out en masse to vote for them."
The 2018 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be held April 14 in Cleveland, Ohio, and will air on HBO.
