Fiona the premature hippo celebrates her 2nd birthday with an exotic fruit cake

She's been steadily gaining weight, which is a good thing.

Fiona the hippo is thriving.

She hit a major milestone just weeks ago and now she's celebrating her second birthday.

And while they may be known as the "terrible twos" for other toddlers, the fact that Fiona is alive to celebrate at all is a bit of a miracle.

Fiona was born prematurely in 2017 and weighed just 29 pounds at the time, as compared to a typical newborn hippo that weighs between 55 and 120 pounds.

She became something of a social media sensation early on, and her fans have watched as she's steadily gained weight.

"Fiona is remarkable for being unremarkable now,” Christina Gorsuch, the Cincinnati Zoo's curator of mammals, said in a press release.

"She’s just like most other 2-year-old hippos, except for the fact that she’s a celebrity in Cincinnati and beyond!"

In December, the zoo celebrated her hitting the 1,000 pound mark and noted that her New Year's resolution was to continue to gain weight.

The resolution should be no problem, as adult female hippos tend to reach about 3,000 pounds, but her birthday cake was relatively healthy.

Her multi-tiered cake included a variety of fruits including papaya, mango, honeydew, kiwi and cantelope.

The cake was topped with a pineapple in the shape of a 2.
