Muhammad Lila is an award-winning correspondent for ABC News covering Pakistan, Afghanistan and the surrounding region. As a digital journalist, he contributes reporting to all ABC News broadcasts and platforms, including "World News with Diane Sawyer," "Good Morning America," "Nightline," as well as ABCNEWS.com, ABC News Radio and ABC's affiliate news service, NewsOne. Prior to joining ABC News in 2012, Muhammad was an anchor and reporter for CBC News in Toronto. Over the past several years he has traveled extensively, reporting from the Himalayas, Haiti, Syria, and Mecca, Saudi Arabia. In 2010 he became one of the first-ever western journalists to live blog/tweet the annual Hajj pilgrimage. He is among the youngest to ever anchor CBC's flagship newscast, The National. Prior to joining CBC, Muhammad was an anchor and reporter for CityTV and CP24, Toronto's top-rated newschannel. Muhammad's background is as diverse as his reporting. He was born and raised in Toronto to East African parents whose ancestry goes back to South Asia. He is fluent in English and Gujarati, conversational in Urdu, and is studying Arabic. A graduate of the University of Toronto and of the Graduate School of Journalism at Columbia University, in his spare time Muhammad is an avid travel writer, and is a contributor to the travel section of the Toronto Star, Canada's most-read newspaper.
