Former "Dancing with the Stars" contestant Chaz Bono has split from his real life partner, Jennifer Elia.

Bono and Elia, who had been dating since 2005, "are no longer a couple," a rep for Bono told ABCNews.com today.

"Chaz Bono and his fiancée, Jennifer Elia, have jointly announced that they have called off their engagement and are no longer a couple," the rep said. "They leave this relationship with great love, respect and affection towards one another. No further amplification will be forthcoming and they ask that you respect their privacy at this time."

Bono proposed to Elia atop Seattle's space needle earlier this year. The proposal was featured during "Being Chaz," an hour long special on Oprah Winfrey's OWN that aired in November.

Bono's relationship with Elia featured heavily in " Becoming Chaz," the documentary about his transition from female to male that premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January and aired on OWN. In the film, Elia expressed her reservations with Bono's decision to become a man, lamenting his hormone-induced mood swings and harsher personality.

"Hormones change people and I think he's leveled out right now," she told " Nightline's" Cynthia McFadden in May. "There was a period where I felt they were kind of spiked. The testosterone was like really machismo, and it was hard to deal with."
