America's Next Great Filmmakers: Campus MovieFest

Oct. 4, 2006 — -- The search is on for the next great American filmmaker.

Over the next few months, you'll be able to watch some of the best in student films.

ABC News Now will be posting entrants in the 2006-2007 Campus MovieFest, the world's largest student movie event.

This year's CMF begins with work from young filmmakers from California. Students hail from the University of California, Berkeley; Stanford University; San Jose State University; Sonoma State; and other Bay Area schools.

CMF is providing 10,000 students everything they need to create a short movie and share it with the world.

In the competition, student teams get the latest Apple laptops with movie-editing software, digital camcorders, and training to capture their stories.

Movies are then judged by fellow students and staff members, with top movie showcases at university-wide finale events.

ABC News Now will follow the event in the upcoming week, with features on the entrants and a look at some of the top films.

On ABCNEWS.com, you'll find free clips each week of featured movies, along with premium video of entire films.

The CMF winners in the Bay Area events can look forward to $50,000 in prizes, including Apple computers and iPods, in addition to nationwide exposure to millions of viewers.
