For What Kinds Of Chest Pain Should I Seek Medical Attention?

Question: For What Kinds Of Chest Pain Should I Seek Medical Attention?

Dr. Doris K. Cope answers the question: 'Chest Pain That Requires A Doctor?'

Answer: You should seek medical attention for chest pain that is sudden, is extreme, that is new and acute, and particularly pain that might signify a myocardial infarction, or a heart attack. That sort of pain is usually described as an elephant sitting on your chest, pressing, deep, radiating maybe into the left arm, into your neck. And it needs attention. Chronic minimal pain may be related to a chronic condition such as dyspepsia, ulcer disease, or heartburn.
