— -- Noah Galloway has gone from the battlefield to the ballroom.

The U.S. Army war hero and "Dancing With the Stars" alum stopped by "Good Morning America" today to discuss his new memoir, "Living With No Excuses." In the book, Galloway sheds light on his military experience, and the long recovery he faced after losing two limbs during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Galloway said it was the devastating attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, that made him decide to fight for the United States.

"I was in college and seeing the things that everyone in the world watched live on television, that was enough for me to drop out of school, join the military, to be part of the fight," Galloway said.

In December 2005, Galloway lost his arm and leg after his Humvee hit a roadside bomb. In his memoir, Galloway, a father of three, reveals how he persevered.

"For a long time, people assumed it was like this one turning moment that got me back into living my life and, you know, being a better father and getting back into fitness, but there were several things. That's what I share in the book. I go into great detail of my depression."

He added: "I did it [wrote the memoir] because when I was going through those struggles, I thought I was the only one. I was hiding it from everyone and I'm hoping that it will connect with somebody or someone that may know someone that is going through that and see those signs and be able to help them."
