Washed Up: Transforming a Trashed Landscape

Alejandro Duran’s latest project “Washed Up: Transforming a Trashed Landscape” addresses the amount of plastic waste that washes ashore upon the beaches of one of Mexico’s largest federally-protected reserves, Sian Ka’an. Through the course of the project Duran was able to identify the plastic waste of 50 different nations from six continents. Distributing the colored plastics the way waves would, his images "mirror the reality or our current environmental predicament,” he said. He hopes to draw awareness to the potential dangers our waste causes. Here is Brotes (Shoots), 2014.
