  • "The twins, Maria Clara e Maria Eduarda Oliveira Santana, are doing good," a spokesperson at the hospital told ABC News. "They remain hospitalized here at Hospital Materno Infantil (HMI), waiting for the complete healing of their curatives. As soon as it completely heals, they will receive medical discharge to go back to their home state."

  • "I feel very happy by writing through images the girls' and their family's lives," Filipe wrote on his website. "I used photograph that is a universal language to eternize a small universe, and being able to take it to the world is incredible."

  • Felipe, a Brazilian native, said he first took photos of the conjoined twins after meeting the family by chance. "We were walking in the city and I saw a story on TV asking for donations," he said (to ABC News?). "I had already seen some cases on the media and my biggest dream was to photograph conjoined twins. The pictures were taken in the city of Goiania, in the state of Goias, Brazil."

  • Felipe said he was thrilled to be invited back to the hospital to photograph the girls following their separation. "The encounter was amazing, I saw those pretty girls who are now bodily separated, but the symbolic and affective union prevails, they continue united, they are sisters, human beings, generated in the same belly," he wrote on his website.

  • The girls' father, Caique Santana, said he was very grateful for the photography session. "Mateus took many photos of them," he told ABC News in August. "It means a lot because my kids are everything to me."

  • "I feel so happy and relieved the surgery was okay, thank God," Santana told ABC News today. "I'm very relieved. They are recovering well and are improving."

  • Felipe said he's happy his photo series was received by people outside of Brazil. He added that he hopes the pictures bring awareness to such conditions and inspires people to learn more about the world.

  • “The girls’ condition is not easy, the place is poor and they need and will need many donations,” Filipe said. “The mother told me that sometimes one of them sleeps and the other stays awake. In spite of all difficulties they face, the family can be hopeful with the so [sic] waited surgery and they really believe in a better future.”

  • While he awaits his daughters' surgery, Santana said he plans on enjoying the little moments he has with them. "I give them affection and they are laughing," he said. "I talk to them a lot too."
