Reporter's Notebook: Rapper 50 Cent Dances, Delivers Meals in Africa
These are words I never thought I'd string together: I just spent the past few days on a humanitarian mission in Africa… with 50 Cent.
The rapper/actor/entrepreneur has set a goal of delivering a billion meals through the UN World Food Programme. The money for this plan is to come from sales of his new energy drink, called Street King.
It was fascinating to watch this guy who grew up on the mean streets of South Jamaica, Queens - his mom, a drug dealer, was murdered and he went in to the family business at age 12 - as he came face to face with a level of poverty and desperation he'd never before encountered.
At a refugee camp in Somalia, he was left speechless at points. At a school in Kenya's largest slum, he danced with the kids.
I'll have much more on " Nightline" and " Good Morning America" in the coming days.
