Kerry Washington Marries NFL Star Nnamdi Asomugha

In what might be one of the biggest surprises of the year, "Scandal" star Kerry Washington secretly married her boyfriend, San Francisco 49ers cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha, on June 24 in Blaine County, Idaho.

The Blaine County Recorder's Office confirmed to ABC News that a marriage license was issued for the couple at 9:16 a.m. on June 24. The actress's parents Earl and Valerie Washington signed the document as witnesses to the nuptials while Chisaraokwu Asomugha was listed as the minister.

The two have been quietly dating for about a year.

Previously, Washington, 36, had been engaged to actor David Moscow for three years until the actress broke it off in 2007.

She recently made headlines appearing on the cover of the August edition of Vanity Fair, the first black woman to do so since Beyonce in 2005.

In the magazine, the "Django Unchained" star expressed pride that "One of the most profound things for me about the show is the number of white women of all ages who come up to me and say, 'I want to be Olivia Pope,'"

Asomugha, 31, is a three-time Pro Bowler, who previously played for the Oakland Raiders and the Philadelphia Eagles before signing with the 49ers earlier this year.

A rep for Washington told ABC News, "I don't comment on my client's personal life." Asomugha's rep said, "We don't comment on our clients' personal lives."

The sports gossip site TerezOwens.com was the first to report news of the new union.
