NBA star Dwayne Wade, who has made no secret about how much he values fatherhood, confirms that he fathered a third son during a temporary breakup with fiance Gabrielle Union.

"I had a time, a part in our break, in our pain and our hurt, a blessing came out of it in my life, having a son that was born healthy," Wade, 31, said during a press conference Monday, Dec. 30 before his team, the Miami Heat, played the Denver Nuggets. "So I'm moving on."

Wade and Union, who have dated off and on since 2009, became engaged Dec. 21.

"She said YES!!!" Wade, 31, wrote.

Union has not yet publicly addressed her fiance's baby news.

But Wade, who has primary custody of sons Zaire, 11, and Zion, 6, from his previous marriage to Siohvaughn Funches and is also raising a nephew at his Florida home, has already seen the latest addition to the "Wade bloodline."

"You know me," the athlete told reporters. "I'm involved in my kids' lives. When my kids were living at home with me, or wasn't living at home with me, I tried to do everything I could to see them."

Wade wrote about his commitment to fatherhood in the 2012 book "A Father First."

"I've always tried to show my importance in my kids' lives and it doesn't change now," the Miami Heat guard told reporters. "So, I, my lady and my family have continued to move forward, and I think that's evident with the ring and the proposal that I gave her, with our lives."
