Nov. 23: First Issue of Life Magazine Published
On this day in 1936, the first issue of Life as a weekly news magazine was published. The cover featured a photo of the Fort Peck Dam by Margaret Bourke-White. The original Life folded during the Great Depression but was relaunched by Henry Luce as a picture-based periodical in 1936.
And on this day in 1990, Roald Dahl, the author of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” “James and the Giant Peach” and several other books, died.
