Weekend Editions of "World News" Close Overall Viewing Gap with "NBC Nightly News" - Marking Smallest Viewing Gap in 10 Years on Saturdays and Smallest in 11 Years on Sundays

Sunday Edition of "ABC World News" Ties "NBC Nightly" for #1 Spot in Key Demo

The weekend editions of ABC's flagship evening newscast, "World News with David Muir," continue to close the gaps with "NBC Nightly News" on the weekends among both Total Viewers and the key Adults 25-54 demo. In fact, the weekend editions of "ABC World News" have closed the total viewing gaps with NBC to the smallest levels in over a decade .

The Saturday edition of "World News with David Muir" averaged 4.128 million Total Viewers and a 0.7 rating/3 share/875,000 Adults 25-54 during the 2nd Quarter 2013 according to Nielsen Media Research. "World News" Saturday edition was up over the year-ago quarter among both Total Viewer (+7%) and Adults 25-54 (+1%) - 3.85 million and 865,000 for 2Q12. In fact, on Saturdays "World News" finished as the only evening news program to grow over the year-earlier quarter in both measures as "CBS Saturday News" (+3%/-10%) was mixed, while "NBC Nightly News Sat" (-3%/-5%) posted losses.

In both Total Viewers and Adults 25-54, the Saturday edition of "ABC World News" slashed its margins with "NBC Nightly News Saturday" (125,000 and 99,000, respectively) by double-digits compared to both the previous quarter (-82%, 679,000 and -48%, 190,000, respectively, for 1Q13) and the year-ago quarter (-77%, 553,000 and -39%, 161,000, respectively, for 2Q12). Furthermore, "World News Sat" delivered its smallest margins with the NBC program for any quarter in more than 10 years in Total Viewers and in 4 years in Adults 25-54 - since 3Q02 and 2Q09, respectively

" World News Saturday" beat "CBS Saturday News" by 883,000 Total Viewers and by 191,000 Adults 25-54 viewers during 2Q13.

The Sunday edition of "World News with David Muir" averaged 4.782 million Total Viewers and a 1.1 rating/ 4 share/ 1.309 million Adults 25-54 during the 2nd Quarter 2013 according to Nielsen Media Research. "World News" Sunday broadcast improved on the same quarter last year among both Total Viewer (+6%) and Adults 25-54 (+7%) - 4.527 million and 1.229 million for 2Q12. In addition, the ABC Sunday newscast attracted its largest overall 2nd quarter audience in 10 years - since 2Q03. Furthermore, "World News" Sunday newscast stood as the only evening news program to build on the year-ago quarter in both measures as "CBS Evening News Sunday" (-5%/-15%) was down, while "NBC Nightly News Sun" (up less than 1%/-6%) was mixed.

"World News" on Sunday finished in a virtual tie for No. 1 with "NBC Nightly News Sun" in Adults 25-54 during 2Q13 as only 2,000 demo viewers separated the two programs (1.309 million vs. 1.311 million). In fact, the Sunday edition of "World News" 2Q13 performance in the news demo was its closest with "NBC Nightly News Sun" during a 2nd quarter in 12 years - since 2Q01.

In addition, for the 3rd consecutive year, "World News Sun" narrowed its Total Viewer margin with "NBC Nightly News Sun" versus the year-ago 2nd quarter by double-digits (-46%, 292,000 vs. 537,000 for 2Q12) to turn in its smallest Total Viewer gap in 11 years - since 2Q02.

"World News Sunday" outperformed "CBS Evening News Sunday" during 2Q13 by 861,000 Total Viewers and by 425,000 Adults 25-54 viewers, scoring its largest 2nd quarter margins over the CBS program in 14 years in overall viewers and in 7 years in the key adult news demo - since 2Q99 and 2Q06, respectively.
