World's Largest Oyster Is One Big Bivalve
A Pacific Oyster found off the coast of Denmark has officially been named the world's largest, according to Guinness World Records.
The oyster measures 13.97 inches in length and 4 inches in width, which is around a size 11 shoe. This large oyster also has five other oysters attached to it. In total, it weighs over 3.5 pounds, says a spokesperson from Guinness World Records.
This Pacific Oyster originates from the Danish shores of the Wadden Sea and is now calls the Vadehavscentret (Wadden Sea Center) home.
Scientists estimate the oyster is between 15 and 20 years old.
