President Obama joked today that the White House may be in danger of getting egged this Halloween if first lady Michelle Obama doesn’t start handing out candy.

The first lady, a well-known advocate for healthful eating, has apparently been reluctant to offer children sugary treats. “Halloween is coming up, and she’s been giving kids, for the last few years,  fruit and raisins in the bag,” the president told Jay Leno today in an interview set to air Tuesday on NBC’s “Tonight Show.”

Obama said he warned his wife “the White House is gonna get egged if this keeps up.”

“You need to throw some candy in there,” he said. “A couple Reese’s Pieces or something.”
