“Hung” Star Thomas Jane Was a Homeless Hooker?

Season premieres are often accompanied by the requisite celebrity interviews where stars drop some tantalizing nugget about their personal lives to pique interest in the show.  But  “Hung” star Thomas Jane has really taken this convention to new heights, revealing that in his younger days he was a homeless gay hooker.

Jane’s comments to the Los Angeles Times are timed conveniently to the Oct. 2 season premiere of the show on HBO. The 42-year-old actor, who plays gigolo Ray Drecker on the show,  told the paper that “as an artist in a big city, as James Dean said, you’re going to have one arm tied behind your back if you don’t accept people’s sexual flavors. You know, when I was a kid out here in L.A., I was homeless, I didn’t have any money and I was living in my car. I was 18. I wasn’t averse to going down to Santa Monica Boulevard and letting a guy buy me a sandwich. Know what I mean?”

I guess we get his drift.  Jane says it was an informative time for him in terms of self-knowledge. “It blew the doors off of my conventional upbringing and thinking and opened up possibilities for me that were akin to World War III,”  said Jane.  “And then you actually have a choice, and I chose to be a heterosexual guy because that’s what my DNA dictates and my nurture dictates that I am.”

So will this experience make its way into season 3?  Jane says they will push the boundaries this year (which is  hard to imagine if you have watched the show). “This year I become the conduit for two Midwestern women to express their sexual feelings for each other,” Jane says.  ”And I also date; I take on a transgender client this season, which turned out to be one of my favorite episodes of the year.”
