Kate Winslet Won’t Let Kids Get Screwed Up By Divorce
Kate Winslet is opening up about her failed marriages and how she is determined not to let them mess up her children. The Emmy award winner separated from her second husband, director Sam Mendes, in March 2010.
“I’ve had to remind myself to have those moments of being able to have a f***ing good cry, but it did take someone putting their hand on me — a gay male friend, actually, who put his hand on my shoulder and said: ‘It’s OK, you can cry about this, and maybe you should,’” Winslet said in an interview in the November issue of Harper’s Bazaar U.K., according to the U.K.’s Daily Mail.
Winslet has an 11-year-old daughter, Mia, with first husband Jim Threapleton and a 7-year-old son, Joe, with Mendes.
“There’s no way that I’m going to allow my children to be f***ed up because my marriages haven’t worked out,” she said. “I so wish that that wasn’t the case, that that hadn’t happened in my life, but it has. So I will make the best of it.”
Winslet, who turns 36 tomorrow, is reportedly dating Ned Rocknroll, 33, the nephew of billionaire Richard Branson. The two supposedly came together following the August fire at Branson’s Necker Island in which Winslet aided in getting Branson’s 90-year-old mother out of the Caribbean estate.
The “Mildred Pierce” star didn’t elaborate on her love life, but she told Harper’s, “I feel that I’m just at the beginning of a new narrative, and it’s incredibly exciting.”
